We are looking for two talented new team members to join the digital antibody research partnership between the molecular modelling group of Prof Jonathan Essex at the University of Southampton and UCB, a global biopharma.

As a Post-Doctoral Scientist in computational antibody design, you will develop and implement computational antibody design methodologies such as atomistic simulations and AI-based design to accelerate the delivery of high-quality novel antibody therapeutics.

Both positions are three-year fully-funded postdoctoral positions based at the University of Southampton, collaborating closely with the UCB Antibody Research Facility in Slough, UK.

Would you like to work in an environment where you can:

  • Apply cutting-edge AI and physics-based methodologies to address scientific challenges;
  • Work effectively with colleagues in both academia and industry;
  • Develop new skills and competencies?

You will contribute by:

  • Developing, communicating, and implementing novel computational methodologies to accelerate the delivery of high-quality novel antibody therapies;
  • Working in small scientific teams of experimental and computational experts spanning industry and academia;
  • Defining and monitoring progress across projects; presenting regularly on the progress, impact, and delivery to multi-disciplinary teams.

Interested? For this position, you’ll need the following education, experience, and skills:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in the application of molecular modelling or AI/machine learning to proteins.
  • Experience in modern computational molecular design methodologies such as physics-based simulation or AI/ML, preferably applied to explore the structure/design of antibodies or related proteins.
  • Experience in the Linux operating systems and Python programming.
  • Some comprehension of modern antibody discovery processes and technologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, and skilled in communicating science across a wide variety of disciplines.

At the University of Southampton, we value diversity and equality. The University recognises that employees may wish to have working patterns that fit with their caring responsibilities or work-life balance. Due consideration will also be given to applicants who have had career breaks for reasons including maternity, paternity or adoption leave, disability or illness. Both the University of Southampton and Chemistry are proud to hold Athena Swan Silver Awards.
