About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Astronomy Data Science and HPC Support to join a team that values and celebrates diversity.

This role will provide software and hardware support for astronomy-focused high-performance computing (HPC) and data science programs at Swinburne University. This includes supporting Astronomy Data and Computing Services (ADACS), the Gravitational Wave Data Centre (GWDC), and the OzSTAR supercomputing environment. ADACS, supported by Astronomy Australia Limited (AAL), aims to enhance astronomers' scientific output through training, software services, and improved resource access. 

It involves contributing to software and infrastructure projects, software engineering and testing, HPC system administration, research, and development. The appointee must collaborate with various teams, including Swinburne Information Technology Services and the astronomy research community. The position is based at Swinburne University, known for its expertise in supercomputing and astronomical research.

About You 

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

•  In consultation with the national astronomy community, develop software and systems for use in astronomy and astrophysics research

•  Design, develop and port astronomy software for use on national high performance computing facilities 

•  Assist in the effective delivery of Swinburne requirements within the Astronomy Data and Computing Services (ADACS) and Gravitational Wave Data Centre (GWDC) programs, ensuring that project milestones and reporting deadlines are met

•  Provide support to the national astronomy community in general to encourage efficient use of the software and hardware resources available

•  Work effectively with the support team at Swinburne and at other national facilities to deal with issues relating to the services provided.

Qualifications

•  Masters and/or PhD in astronomy or a closely related field and/or equivalent level of relevant experience or, a degree in computer science, software engineering or information technology or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
