Job Description:

The Department of English is home to numerous faculty and staff members dedicated to providing students with engaging and meaningful classes for future educators. We offer degrees in English, English Adolescence Education and Writing at the undergraduate level, and also offer a multi - award, combined BA/M degree in English Adolescence Education. This program allows students to complete both degrees in five years. They are also eligible for professional certification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will:

  • Teach the following: ENGL 100: The Craft of Writing, SPST 115: Pillars of College Success, SPST 160: Project Success;
  • Participate in University Service, English 100 team meetings, Recruitment and retention support, Regular assessment for the Fredonia Foundations general education program, and support for specific offices;
  • Contribute to curriculum development and refinement;
  • Provide academic advisement to students;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or above in English, Composition and Rhetoric, English Education, or related field in hand at start of 2024-2025 academic year;
  • Demonstrated excellence in university teaching;
  • Demonstrated capacity to successfully teach an introductory, process-based writing class;
  • Significant experience teaching and revising introductory composition course based on student outcomes, program assessment, and institutional priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individual and small groups of students;
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse range of faculty, students, staff, and constituents in support of department and university mission;
  • Demonstrated commitment to students, the department, college, division, university, and profession;
  • Demonstrated experience with appropriate educational technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated effectiveness working with underserved students (including but not limited to students of color, first-generation college students, students in the LGBTQ+ community, students with disabilities, international and immigrant students, and students living with mental illness);
  • Experience in developing and revising assessment instruments for course-level assessment;
  • Demonstrated ability in curriculum development;
  • Experience or familiarity with Open Educational Resources (OERs), e-portfolios, and student retention tools, and their use in the composition classroom;
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with a team of colleagues to set priorities for student support and course revision;
  • Demonstrated capacity for contributing to diversity;
  • Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement.


Additional Information:

This is a full time, term appointed, non-tenure track, UUP represented position beginning Fall 2024.

Salary range of $48,396-$53,396.
