Academic Psychiatrist – Schizophrenia Program

We have an excellent opportunity available for the full-time position of Academic Psychiatrist, with appropriate experience, in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences (DPBN), McMaster University - Division of Schizophrenia, working within the Schizophrenia Service at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The successful candidate will work in the outpatient program and will provide specialized care to patients with Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders in a collegial environment which fosters education and research.
Academic rank will be appointed appropriate to the successful applicant’s credentials and experience. The position offers excellent benefits and remuneration is commensurate with academic rank and position duties and responsibilities.
Academically, the candidate is expected to be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, research activities, clinical service and administrative roles.
The clinical portion of this position includes managing patients with chronic psychotic disorders through the Schizophrenia Outpatient Clinic at the St. Joseph’s West 5th site.

Qualifications:
- The successful candidate for this position will hold a valid Ontario CPSO license and be a trained psychiatrist with FRCPC or equivalent.
- The candidate will have training and experience in schizophrenia and related disorders with preference given to candidates with 2-5 years practice experience.
- The candidate will have demonstrated commitment and skills in clinical education with all levels of learners and will provide leadership and training to future psychiatrists. There are ample education and supervision opportunities with the Schizophrenia Program.
- Demonstrated capability and interest in clinical research and evidence of a history of research productivity to align with the departmental academic mission and vision is an asset. The academic psychiatrist will be expected to fully participate in all of the appropriate departmental and divisional administrative and educational activities.
