The Department of Music at Royal Holloway is inviting applications for the position of Visiting Vocal Tutor in Popular Music.
The Department of Music is one of the largest in the UK, offering a very broad and diverse range of modules, all taught by world-leading experts. We are ranked among the top Music departments in the UK for our teaching (placed 2nd in the Good University Guide 2024, and 6th in the Complete University Guide, 2022–23) and our research (ranked 1st in the UK for music research by the Complete University Guide 2023–24 and by the Times Higher analysis of the 2021 Research Excellence Framework). We also benefit from a vibrant creative campus community rated 14th in the world for Performing Arts (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024). The Department covers music across a thousand years of history and also explores the changing nature of music in today’s world. Through performance, composition, sound design and academic study, we challenge students to think about what music is today and why it matters.
The Department of Music has an extremely high level of performance, both in campus music-making and also in student academic attainment, with student ensembles including Choirs, Orchestras, Jazz Groups, and more. The Department has extensive practice and teaching facilities, access to several excellent performance venues, and a new suite of professional-level recording studios. The Music Department’s Instrumental and Vocal Tutors are an essential part of our staff, and they contribute a vital aspect to our students’ experience of Music at Royal Holloway.
We are recruiting for a new Visiting Vocal Tutor (Popular Music). The purpose of this role is to provide advanced-level tuition for first-study vocal students specialising in Popular Music, primarily on a one-to-one basis (with some scope for occasional group teaching). Our students vary from undergraduate through to postgraduate, all at an advanced level of music-making. Lessons take place in our Woodlands practice facilities at the Royal Holloway campus in Egham. The role is by nature a flexible position as teaching needs vary by term and academic year, depending on student intake.
The post is based in Egham where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
