Two-Year Visiting Assistant Professor of AGIS

Ohio Wesleyan University is excited to grow its recently created interdisciplinary Department of Africana, Gender, and Identity Studies (AGIS) with a two-year visiting position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek applicants who bring to their teaching and research an intersectional lens focused on issues of race, gender, sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, and class in the US. The area of specialization is open, but we are especially interested in candidates who hold an interdisciplinary Ph.D. (e.g. in African American Studies, American Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Feminist Studies, or a related interdisciplinary field). Candidates are expected to contribute courses that can be cross-listed in either the Arts or Humanities or Social Sciences.
The successful applicant will teach three courses per semester at the introductory and advanced levels; cultivate meaningful mentoring relationships with students through experiential learning opportunities as part of Ohio Wesleyan’s signature program, The OWU Connection. We encourage BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or first-generation candidates to apply, as well as individuals who have experience working with diverse student populations, first-generation students, and students from low-income backgrounds. To support this important work, incoming faculty will be provided with mentoring, professional development funds, and opportunities to connect with faculty across the Ohio Five and GLCA consortia.

- Cover Letter that includes a statement of their research interests and in which they address their qualifications for close interaction between faculty and students in a collaborative setting and their interest in mentoring undergraduate students in the classroom, as advisees, and as researchers;
- Curriculum Vitae;
- Statement of Teaching Philosophy;
- A Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement in which candidates discuss how they will help to address issues of racial disparity and mentor students from marginalized groups, first-generation students, and students from low-income backgrounds through their teaching and mentorship.
