Job description

Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy

This new full-time post is available from 1 October 2024 on a 36-month fixed term basis.

The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Grade E) or Fellow (grade F) to support the work of Professor Alastair Wilson. This NERC funded post is available from 1 October 2024 for a period of 36 months. There is some flexibility in start date (with a start date potentially as late as January 2025).

The successful applicant will conduct research at Exeter’s Centre for Ecology and Conservation to understand Divergent and parallel evolution of boldness in guppies.

This project, which spans behavioural ecology, quantitative genetics, and evolutionary genomics, is led by Alastair Wilson in collaboration with Erik Postma and Bonnie Fraser. It is also supported by a dedicated research technician and animal care staff in the Aquatic Facility

The role will primarily include day-to-day management of the project, working with the technician to develop and deliver lab-based behavioural studies of fish, conducting analyses of behavioural and genomic data, leading manuscript writing, and delivery of presentation to communicate results.

About you

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion for Associate) in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants must have strong interests in evolution, animal behaviour, and statistical analysis. Specific skills and experience in the use of genomic data for population and/or quantitative genetic studies would be an asset.

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
