By collaborating closely with industry partners and government bodies, we ensure that our courses stay relevant and responsive, translating research findings into practical applications.

The Professor of Nutrition will spearhead major collaborations to foster novel research and creative endeavours with international recognition and significant community impact. This role involves leading extensive and productive research and scholarship in the field of nutrition, ensuring high-impact outputs. Additionally, the Professor will support and guide teaching teams in developing innovative, research-informed, and learner-centric courses and materials. Responsibilities also include working collaboratively with nutrition teams and the broader community to create new practices and frameworks that enhance student learning outcomes and promote accessible and inclusive learning environments, as well as leading groundbreaking research programs that drive policy, strategy, and other innovations with national and international acclaim.

As Professor of Nutrition you will:

  • Support the development of effective unit and course teaching and learning capability and teams in nutrition and relevant pedagogies.
  • Promote and facilitate a culture of collaboration and educational excellence (incl. periodically monitor and review culture) in nutrition and support sector-wide professional development programs (nationally and internationally).
  • Lead and integrate industry, clinical and/or nutrition research practices to inform unit / course (incl. assessment) design and student learning experiences and resources
  • Lead teams and succeed in funding opportunities for nutrition research, including applications for large-scale/strategic external competitive funding, funding for commercialization and translation activities and other funding, demonstrating sustained effort and success.
  • Demonstrate a sustained and substantial national and international reputation as world leader in nutrition, based on extensive body of work, recognized for quality, excellence and impact with a track record of timely delivery of outcomes for industry partners.
  • Lead the development and significantly contribute to citizenship activities and effectiveness as champion at local and university level.
  • Significantly contribute to the implementation of the strategic agenda and demonstrate delivery of material outcomes through formal and informal leadership and contributory roles to deliver core outcomes.                                                                  

To be successful, you’ll have:

Essential

  • PhD in nutrition or related discipline
  • Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to postgraduate and undergraduate nutrition (or related) teaching programs that influences, motivates and inspires students to learn.
  • Demonstrated success and passion for leading teaching, research and/or administration.
  • Knowledge of multi-literacies and experience in teaching effectively in a technology- enhanced contemporary higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent nutrition authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and exhibitions as relevant to the nutrition discipline (e.g., clinical nutrition, nutrition sciences, public health nutrition)
  • Established expertise in contemporary methodologies relevant to the nutrition discipline (e.g., dietary assessment, analytical methods).
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants to support nutrition-based research projects and programs
  • Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of nutrition.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive collaborations within discipline and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated success in developing teams of early- and mid-career researchers in nutrition who are closely aligned with own research area AND developing researchers outside their own team and research.
  • Evidence of excellence in the supervision, management and timely completion of HDR students, including advising and improving on research excellence, career development and candidature management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and students.

Desirable

  • Accredited Practising Dietitian with Dietitians Australia
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues.
