The Massey University Commercial Services Team is responsible for managing and enhancing the university’s commercial operations. This team plays a crucial role in supporting the university’s financial sustainability by generating revenue through various commercial activities, events, hospitality, and catering services, and showcasing the premium premises on all Massey Campus’s, ensuring efficient management of university assets and services. 

About the role: 

Are you an energetic, customer-focused professional with a passion for creating delightful café experiences? Massey University Commercial Services is seeking a Café Assistant to join our vibrant team and help us deliver exceptional service and quality on campus!

This position is Monday to Friday (unless requested otherwise) 20 set hours per week same hours per day as per roster. Enjoy a great work life balance in hospitality! 

As our Café Assistant, you’ll be at the heart of our café operations, located at the beautiful historic Wharerata on Manawatū Campus. Providing excellent customer service and supporting various aspects of our café environment. You’ll take on diverse responsibilities, from assisting with coffee and food preparation to ensuring smooth daily operations and a welcoming atmosphere. Your mission? To deliver high-quality, customer-centric service, enhancing our café’s reputation and delighting every customer who walks through our doors.

Collaborating closely with our Operating Café Manager and team members, you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining an inviting and efficient café setting. Your dedication and enthusiasm will help create a warm and enjoyable space for students, faculty, and visitors.

Your ultimate responsibility will be to deliver outstanding customer experiences, ensuring that everyone leaves with a smile.

You’re not only highly organised and self-motivated but also excel at providing exceptional service and ensuring efficient café operations. You’re skilled at handling multiple tasks, maintaining high standards, and creating enjoyable experiences for every customer.

As the successful candidate you will bring: 

New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3). 

NZQA Food Safety 167 & 168. 

New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Level 2-6) is desirable. 

Current General Manager (Bar) Certificate. 

Previous Café and hospitality experience for 2+ years is preferred. 

Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
