Campus TitleProposal Developer/Sponsored Research AssociateDepartmentSponsored ResearchPosition SummarySUNY Geneseo invites applications for the position of Proposal Developer/Sponsored Research Associate. The Proposal Developer/Sponsored Research Associate will support the College by working with faculty and staff members on the development, writing/editing, and submission of competitive proposals to external sponsors. This includes identification of funding opportunities using various grant databases, sponsor websites, and other sources and communicating this information to interested faculty and staff. The Proposal Developer/Sponsored Research Associate will provide editing suggestions to faculty and staff members submitting proposals, develop proposal budgets, complete form pages, write institutional descriptions and other narrative sections as needed, prepare proposals in final format, and generally work with faculty/staff to complete proposals. Electronic submission of proposals using Grants.gov, Research.gov and other proposal submission systems is also required. The Proposal Developer/Sponsored Research Associate will also write institutional proposals and will offer periodic workshops on grants writing and funding opportunities.Required QualificationsRequired Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree by time of appointment
  • Three years of comparable/related professional experience
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working environment

Preferred QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:


  • Master’s or doctoral degree
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) designation
  • Experience in a pre-award office in a university or other research institution working one-on-one with faculty and staff in proposal and budget development
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and agency regulations pertaining to university grants (e.g. 2 CFR Part 200)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience developing and conducting workshops
  • Significant experience with submission of applications through Grants.gov, Research.gov, and other submission systems.
