About the role - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Matanga Rau Mahi - Careers Consultant, who will join the Te Servicenga Rapu Mahi - Careers and Employment team in a permanent, full-time position.
This is an exciting position for a dynamic, student-centred professional, this role will offer you a collaborative and supported work environment. You will be responsible for providing professional career guidance, resources, and workshops to meet the career development needs of students and graduates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Researches, designs, and delivers career development workshops and seminars to groups of students (in-person and online).
- Provides one on one appointments and drop-in sessions for individual students seeking careers counselling including interview preparation, advice regarding job applications, CVs and cover letters, portfolios and study plans and managing any transitions.
- Designs and produces materials that can assist students with building employability skills.
- Works with academic and faculty staff, central services, and student associations to upskill and support their understanding of employability and career development.
- Assists the wider Careers and Employment team to deliver career expos, initiatives, and employer events.
Your skills - About you
With an interest in careers and employability, you will be a motivated, customer-focused individual who genuinely wants to help students to develop their future careers. In addition, you are curious about the ‘future of work’, the impact of industry trends, and how to best engage with diverse groups of people. With an excellent manner with people, facilitation skills, strong relationship building skills, and an ability to self-manage, you will thrive in this role.
The role provides opportunities to use creative thinking to create resources and initiatives that are innovative and at the forefront of the student experience. The role is extremely rewarding and interesting with lots of variety.
Whilst experience in career development is useful, we are open to candidates with related experience including teaching, coaching, consulting, recruiting, and client advising. Training and ongoing support will be provided for the right person.
Key Requirements:
- A career development-specific qualification (or related).
- Experience working in careers, teaching, consulting, recruiting or advisory roles.
- Practice in developing and delivering workshops and seminars (both in-person and online).
- Experience working with diverse populations and groups with specific needs such as international students, refugees and equity groups including Māori and Pasifika.
- Able to work evenings as and when required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, social media including LinkedIn and Instagram, design tools such as Canva, and online databases.
