Teaching Assistant - College of Arts & Sciences
Position Summary
The Teaching Assistant (TA) supports undergraduate instruction by assisting faculty with course delivery, student engagement, and academic support activities. The TA plays a key role in enhancing the overall student learning experience through instructional assistance, academic guidance, and assessment support.
Working under the supervision of the assigned department or program, the TA attends classes as required, supports students through tutoring or group sessions, holds office hours, and assists with grading and examinations. The role requires strong communication skills, subject-area familiarity, professionalism, and the ability to support students in an academic environment while adhering to institutional policies and ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide instructional support by attending assigned classes and assisting faculty with learning activities and in-class student engagement.
- Deliver academic support through recitation sessions, tutoring, office hours, or group activities to reinforce course concepts.
- Support grading and assessment by evaluating assignments, quizzes, exams, and projects in accordance with faculty guidelines and rubrics.
- Assist with academic administration, including exam preparation, material organization, and coordination of course-related activities.
- Participate in departmental meetings, TA training sessions, and other required academic support activities.

- Demonstrates a solid understanding of the relevant academic discipline at the undergraduate level.
- Able to explain course material clearly, engage students constructively, and collaborate effectively with faculty and staff.

- Capable of managing multiple responsibilities, meeting deadlines, and maintaining professionalism.
- Demonstrates integrity, discretion, and adherence to academic and institutional standards.
Education and Experience
Required Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university.
Years of Relevant Experience:
• Prior experience in tutoring, academic support, teaching assistance, or student services is preferred.
• Experience in a university or academic environment is an asset.
Specific Skills or Expertise:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to support grading and assessment processes using faculty-provided rubrics.
Additional Certifications:
• Not required.
