The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) is seeking applicants for a full-time teaching faculty position to begin in August 2026. The position is non-tenure-track at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor. The department is looking for superb educators who inspire students and engage in modern pedagogical approaches.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in data science, statistics, numerical methods, and/or applied mathematics. Prior experience with innovative large-lecture (>100 student) course delivery in Calculus or Differential Equations is also preferred. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses both in these areas and throughout the undergraduate curriculum. There may also be opportunities to teach courses at the graduate level. Further, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate multi-section courses and collaborate effectively in curriculum development, innovative pedagogy, and other departmental service.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate (and graduate) students in traditional, hybrid, and online platforms demonstrating teaching excellence and innovative pedagogical skills.
  • Contribute both institutionally and professionally through active service.
  • Collaborate across campus representing the AMS department.
  • Cultivate and promote an inclusive and diverse Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, and service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in a related discipline from an accredited program by the time of appointment.
  • Established record of successful teaching as an instructor of record at the undergraduate level for mathematics (Calculus 1 or higher), statistics, or data science courses.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate (and graduate) level.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful record of excellence in teaching and curriculum development based on best practices at the undergraduate (and graduate) level.
  • Experience teaching courses in collaborative team environment (e.g., a coordinated setting) and/or serving as a course coordinator.
  • Commitment to university and professional service through committee work, mentoring, or outreach.
  • Potential for teaching across the AMS curriculum include applied mathematics, statistics, and data science courses.

Teaching Assistant Professor Salary

$74,000 to $86,000
