Job Summary:
The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Wisconsin–Superior invites applications for an Ecologist to fill an annually renewable Teaching Assistant Professor of Biology & Environmental Science position beginning August 2026. We seek a dedicated teacher–scholar who will provide high-quality undergraduate instruction in ecology and related courses, incorporate evidence-based teaching methods and research practice, and collaborate with colleagues to strengthen the Biology and Environmental Science programs. The successful candidate will be committed to mentoring undergraduates, especially in senior-year research experiences, and to contributing to the university’s public liberal arts mission.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teach Ecology for biology and environmental science majors, as well as upper-division electives in the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Teach introductory science courses for non-science majors as part of UW-Superior’s liberal arts foundation.
- Deliver courses in face-to-face and online formats.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students, including supervision of research projects and internships.
- Contribute to the service mission of the department, university, and community through participation on committees and outreach activities.
Other Duties:
- Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Biology, Ecology, or closely related discipline by August 31, 2026.
- Evidence of successful college-level teaching experience as instructor of record or as graduate teaching assistant.
- Academic and/or professional research background in ecology.
This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.
Desirable Qualifications:
- PhD in Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline
- Experience in inclusive, student-centered teaching practices, including active learning.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduates in research projects and internships, ideally integrating the candidate’s own research program.
- Experience developing and delivering online courses.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working across disciplines and with community partners.
Compensation:
Salary range for this position is: $55,000 - $60,000 annually. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off, competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance, tax-advantaged savings accounts, and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
