Teaching Assistant Professor of Social Work

Job Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Superior has an established Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program and is launching a new Master of Social Work (MSW) program to start enrolling students in fall 2027.
UW-Superior seeks a Teaching Assistant Professor to oversee the BSW and MSW Practicum Programs. The position requires professional knowledge, administrative and management skills, practicum policy expertise, accreditation experience, and cultural sensitivity. Additionally, a strong collaborative work ethic, commitment to excellence in social work education and community partnership are required. The person will assist the BSW and MSW program directors with administration of the curricula and professional accreditation requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
Direct Practicum Program (BSW and MSW)
- Ensure the Practicum Education program remains in compliance with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) standards.
- Develop and maintain practicum sites and affiliation agreements.
- Recruit, train, and mentor qualified practicum supervisors.
- Oversee and provide support to practicum liaisons, helping to resolve student issues.
- Maintain students’ practicum education records for licensure.
- Develop, update, and distribute the MSW Practicum Manual.
- Contribute to initial CSWE accreditation and subsequent reaccreditation efforts.
- Develop and continually review practicum courses.
Curriculum and Program Development
- Assist with the development of curriculum for both online and in-person teaching and learning to maintain relevance and rigor.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate innovative teaching strategies, including academic service-learning, into the curriculum.
- Support the program adherence to CSWE accreditation standards.
Student Success and Support
- Teach one three-credit course per academic year.
- Provide academic advising to students enrolled in the MSW program.
- Support strategies to enhance student recruitment, retention, and graduation rates.
Scholarship
- Contribute to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work consistent with social work program guidelines.
Accreditation and Compliance
- Ensure that the program maintains accreditation by meeting or exceeding the standards set by accrediting bodies such as the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
- Represent the social work program in the community, including partnerships with educational partners, health and human service organizations, advisory boards, and professional associations.
- Participate in minimum level of department and university service.

- Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- An earned M.S.W. or M.S.S.W. from a CSWE-accredited social work program and a minimum of two years of post-master’s social work practice experience
- Higher education teaching experience
- Experience teaching or learning in an online environment
- Licensed at the graduate level in Wisconsin or Minnesota by start date

Desirable Qualifications:
- At least two years of practicum instruction and/or practicum supervision
- Experience engaging with community partnerships and program development
- An earned doctorate in Social Work; or a doctorate in a related discipline and an earned M.S.W. or M.S.S.W. from a CSWE-accredited social work program with a minimum of two years post master’s social work practice experience
- Hold or be eligible for clinical licensure (LCSW/LICSW) in Wisconsin or Minnesota.
- A well-established history of direct practice, trauma-informed care and science and practice of mindfulness and well-being
- Clinical practice experience
- Demonstrated flexibility to teach in multiple curriculum areas and levels of engagement, clinical assessment, intervention, and evaluation with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities
Compensation: Salary range for this position is: $60,000 - $65,000 annually.
