About the Role
The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is seeking to recruit a Teaching Fellow in European and International History for the School of International Studies.
As a Teaching Fellow, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Teaching & Learning: Plan and manage your own teaching, provide advice, and be an active member of the International Studies (IS) teaching team across various settings, including small group tutorials and lectures.
- Student Support: Identify and address the learning needs of students, ensuring that teaching methods, materials, and content align with the defined learning objectives of various courses.
- Research & Scholarly Contributions: Develop a national reputation in teaching through contributions to scholarly debates in Imperial History, British and European History, and Political Thought. This includes writing research findings for publication in leading journals and disseminating at national and international conferences.
- Collaboration & Administration: Identify and investigate teaching and learning issues within International Studies, both individually and collaboratively. Contribute to the effective management and administration of the School, including duties related to admissions, time-tabling, examinations, assessment of progress, and student attendance.
About You
The ideal candidate should:
- Hold (or be near completion of) a PhD in History, with a focus on European and International History, particularly from the 18th to 20th centuries.
- Be able to teach core courses in European History (particularly from the 18th century onwards) and contribute to specialist courses such as those focusing on Political Thought and the British Empire in a global context.
- Be committed to maintaining high teaching standards and contributing to the development of teaching, methods, and assessments in International Studies.
- Be able to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as effectively supervise dissertations at both levels.
This role is particularly suited for someone with a passion for history and an interest in contributing to an interdisciplinary approach to International Studies.

Remuneration, Benefits, and Support
- This is a fixed-term contract for 1 year, starting in September 2025.
- The annual salary range is RMB 350,343 to RMB 477,481, depending on your skills and experience. There is potential for salary progression beyond this scale based on performance.
