Teaching Fellow in Sports Coaching and Performance Analysis
Role Summary
We are seeking a Teaching Fellow in Sports Coaching and Performance Analysis to join our Life and Sports Sciences Department within the School of Life and Health Sciences, supporting the delivery of high-quality services across the University.
In this role, you will contribute to the development of future professionals in Sports Coaching and Performance Analysis through innovative, applied and student-centred teaching across a range of undergraduate modules. You will play a key role in enhancing the student experience, supporting graduate employability and strengthening the department’s reputation for excellence in sport education. Key responsibilities include delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment, contributing to curriculum development, supporting student academic achievement and engaging with industry-informed practice and research. You will work closely with academic colleagues, technical staff, placement providers and external sport industry partners to ensure teaching and learning activities remain current, professionally relevant and aligned with university priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Sports Coaching and Performance Analysis modules. Areas may include coaching pedagogy, applied coaching practice, performance analysis techniques, athlete development, skill acquisition, notational analysis and contemporary issues within sport performance. This includes delivering lectures, seminars and practical sessions.
- Contribute to curriculum design, development and enhancement to ensure programmes remain innovative and industry relevant.
- Provide academic support and pastoral guidance to students to enhance engagement, achievement and employability.
- Collaborate with academic colleagues and external sport industry partners to support applied learning, placements and professional practice opportunities.
Essential Requirements
- MSc (or equivalent qualification) in Sports Coaching, Performance Analysis, Sport Science or a related discipline.
- Experience of teaching and assessing within Higher Education or a relevant applied sport environment.
- Demonstrable knowledge and expertise in Sports Coaching and Performance Analysis, with the ability to deliver engaging, student-centred teaching across a range of modules.
Desirable Requirements
- Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or willingness to work towards professional recognition.
- Industry experience within professional sport, athlete development or applied performance analysis settings.
- Knowledge or experience in related areas such as GPS, Sport Technology or Talent Development in elite sport.
This role will be based across both our City Centre South Campus and the Alexander Stadium facilities, and the successful candidate will be expected to work across both locations as required to support teaching, learning and industry engagement activities.
