Teaching Fellow in the Subject Area of Education, Childhood and Communities

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our School of Education, which has a long and proud history in education, childhood and teacher training and a reputation for outstanding graduates.

In seeking an inspirational and highly committed Teaching Fellow in the Subject Area of Education, Childhood and Communities, you will be afforded the opportunity to contribute to disciplines and programmes within the Subject Area.

Our BA (Hons) Learning, Development and Support programme is largely aimed at individuals who are returning to education after gaining practical knowledge from their work with children and want to progress to teacher training, social work or a mentoring role. You will join our forward-thinking tutor teams in leading - or contributing to, excellent teaching, learning and practice development for students on this programme of study and other programmes within the Subject Area. The programmes include BA (hons) Education and Primary Studies (not QTS), Education and Special Educational Needs and BA (hons) Early Childhood Studies.

You must be willing and able to work on a contained number of Saturdays as part of our flexible working arrangements. This programme is specifically targeted at students who are in the workplace during the week.

This is your opportunity to be a key contributor to providing a high quality, exceptional and transformative educational experience with our students, and to be part of our continued development and growth.

You will also have:

  • An Honours Degree
  • A Masters level qualification
  • A track record of successful teaching or pastoral/specialist learning and development support in further or higher education
  • Be committed to the pastoral support and successful academic achievements of students
  • Enthusiasm for engaging with schools and a range of other educational settings to enhance the student experience and employability
  • A research-informed understanding of how the outputs of scholarship and research or professional body engagement can inform curriculum development in order to enhance the learning experience of students

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Nicky Hirst, Head of Early Childhood Studies and LDS at N.J.Hirst@ljmu.ac.uk or Jenny Woods, Programme leader for Learning, Development and Support at J.A.Woods@ljmu.ac.uk

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and communities irrespective of age, transgender status, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief. All our appointments are made on merit.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
