CLA Student Success (CLASS) Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Program (MLK) in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) at The University of Minnesota is seeking to create a pool of qualified applicants for temporary, part-time Teaching Specialist positions. These roles fill course needs that cannot be staffed by regular faculty.
This posting does not represent an active vacancy, but will be used to identify instructors on an as-needed basis for the Spring 2026 Semester (January–May). Selected candidates will be supervised by the Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Teaching Specialists will be responsible for:
- Instructing undergraduate students in assigned courses
- Holding regular office hours to assist and advise students
- Participating in departmental meetings as relevant
Course Details
MLK 1002: The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program (Spring 2026 - 1 credit)
MLK 1002 is a year-long cohort experience for students participating in an opt-in academic advising and student life program. The program is geared towards students with intersecting identities from historically excluded, minoritized, and diverse backgrounds who seek to learn about, engage in, and contribute to current social justice movements.
This First-Year Experience course (FYE) provides culturally responsive guidance and support aligned with Dr. King’s philosophy and the vision of the Beloved Community. It aims to empower students to embody Dr. King’s principles in their personal and academic lives while fostering a sense of collective responsibility, leadership, and community engagement.
Class Instruction: Wednesdays, 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm (75 minutes)
Teaching Meetings: Every other Thursday, 3:00 - 4:00 pm. (60 minutes biweekly)
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education or a closely related field
- Minimum one year of teaching or mentoring experience
- Broad familiarity with the liberal arts
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including experience supporting individuals with varying identities and backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Canvas, Google Suite, and instructional technologies
- At least one year of experience in higher education

Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $2106 per credit; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
Additional Pay: $500 (first semester only) for non-CLASS P&A or Teaching Specialists to cover training/professional development
Position Type: P and A Staff
