About the Job
We are looking for a Technical Associate (Mechanical, Biomedical, and Aeronautical) to join our team at the University of East London. This is an exciting opportunity to support teaching, learning, and research within our specialist laboratories and workshops. You will play a key role in maintaining and demonstrating technical equipment, supporting students and staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Experience Required
- To support the academic courses and research of the students and staff of the University at an intermediate or advanced level of competency.
- To ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and protocols in technical environments at an advanced level of competency.
- To provide first-line technical support to staff and students in the form of, but not limited to, teaching and demonstrations using lab spaces and equipment.
- To collaborate with Staff, students and course teams to understand technical requirements and provide technical expertise and support to coursework, exhibitions and research.
- To conduct and oversee regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of technical software and equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety, including but not limited to PAT testing of tools and equipment.
- To provide first-line technical support to staff and students including but not limited to demonstrations of specific equipment, hardware and software, including within educational and research sessions.
- To conduct regular inventory checks, monitor supplies, and order necessary equipment or components as needed.
- To support the coordination and scheduling of technical resources for teaching, events, meetings, workshops, and demonstrations.
About You
You should have:
- Intermediate experience in mechanical and manufacturing processes; testing of mechanical assemblies; quality control and inspection of equipment, and related fields.
- Intermediate experience of working in a small team.
- Intermediate capability of using suite of equipment/applications relevant for Architecture Engineering and Computing environments.
- Advanced knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and good practices applicable to the technical group.
- Experience working in Higher Education or an educational setting.
- Educated to degree level in a relevant area, or gained substantive equivalent experience in a relevant field.
