The Recombinant Products Facility provides services and training in the production and purification of biologics (including proteins, nucleic acids and bacteriophage). The Facility manages and operates state of-the-art equipment including microbial fermentation, cell culture, mid-stream processing including TFF, process chromatography, HPLC and a range of analytical equipment. The Facility operates under an ISO9001-accredited Quality Management System.
You’ll provide professional and technical support through the conduct of InProcess Control and final Quality Control analyses for biologics, plasmid DNA (pDNA), and protein products used in research and pre-clinical studies within a regulated environment. You’ll also liaise with RPF staff to coordinate analytical requirements across projects and develop processes for QC requests and analytical tracking systems. The role contributes specialist knowledge in biologics analytics across a diverse portfolio of projects undertaken within the Facility.
The role reports to the Senior Technical officer and has no direct reports.
Your skills and experience will include:
- A degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology or a related area and/or relevant experience.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, including cloning, plasmid characterisation, and gene expression analysis, would be highly regarded
- Performing and interpreting analytical assays used for the quality and quantity assessment of protein and / or pDNA including HPLC. Experience in techniques used for Protein and/or pDNA production/purification would be advantageous.
- Managing the maintenance, operation, and user training of specialised laboratory instruments within a laboratory setting, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement and technical learning
- Work within a documented Quality Management System and/or Good Manufacturing Practice environment
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to work independently under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- Ability to conduct independent laboratory work with limited supervision, as well as a strong attention to detail and a rigorous approach to experiment design, documentation and analysis of results.
- Ability to work collaboratively and productively in a team including on the same project, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with external partners.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to liaise with a diverse group of individuals, interpret and present analytical results, and write scientific reports.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
