Job Description
Griffith Film School is seeking an experienced, capable technical officer to support students and staff engaged in practical learning, teaching and research activities. The Technical Officer works closely with the Technical Team Leader, Senior Technical Officer, academic and professional stakeholders and students to ensure our media production resources are well maintained, fit for purpose and maximally available.
The Technical Officer is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and operational readiness of a wide range of media production equipment and facilities in use throughout Griffith Film School. The technical officer will also provide advice and operational support to students, staff and stakeholders in the appropriate use of equipment and facilities while engaged in teaching, learning and research activities. The technical officer will continue to develop their production skills and knowledge to align with best practices, risk mitigation, and University standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support staff and students to access and operate a broad range of screen media production equipment, studios and post-production facilities in collaboration with senior staff and colleagues.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including risk assessments, guidelines and standard operating procedures ensuring compliance with work health and safety standards and best practice facility operations.
- Coordinate the maintenance of systems, key production equipment and specialised production facilities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity and health & safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same.
About you
To be successful in this position, you will hold a relevant tertiary qualification with some additional professional experience in the screen media industry or a related field.
In addition to the above, you will demonstrate:
- High level understanding of the key technologies and workflows used in film, animation and game production.
- Hands-on experience with various screen media production technologies including cinema cameras, production lighting and sound recording equipment.
- Ability to diagnose faults with mechanical and electronic equipment and a broad troubleshooting capability.
- Client-focussed, professional and pragmatic demeanour.
- A genuine passion for innovation and education with a strong desire to build a career within this field.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interpret and communication complex issues with a wide variety of clients and stakeholders.
What we can offer
This is a continuing, full-time position and will be primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane City (South Bank). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
Salary Range
The base salary will be HEW Level 5 which is in the range $79,705 - $89,416 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total package will be in the range $93,255 - $104,617 per annum.
