As a Technical Officer at the Centre for Pathogen Genomics, you'll play a crucial role in advancing infectious disease research and surveillance. You'll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge sequencing technologies, contribute to high-impact research and public health initiatives, and develop your expertise in pathogen genomics. Working within a collaborative, values-driven environment, you'll have the opportunity to support groundbreaking research while enhancing your skills in laboratory management and genomics techniques.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conduct Next-Generation Sequencing: Perform whole-genome, 16S rRNA amplicon, and long-read sequencing following standard operating procedures.
- Support Laboratory Operations: Maintain supplies, keep records, and ensure proper storage and disposal of materials in compliance with safety regulations.
- Provide Technical Expertise: Support molecular diagnostics and pathogen genomics projects, staying current with new methodologies and technologies.
- Contribute to Administrative Tasks: Assist with the day-to-day running of the Centre for Pathogen Genomics Innovation Hub as required.
You may be a great fit if: You are a skilled molecular biology professional with a strong background in laboratory techniques, excellent communication skills, and a passion for advancing pathogen genomics research in a collaborative environment.
You may also: Hold a Bachelor's degree in science, microbiology, or a related field with relevant PC2 laboratory experience. Have expertise in molecular biology techniques, including DNA extraction and PCR. Possess strong organisational skills and attention to detail in managing high-throughput sample workflows. Demonstrate proficiency in recording scientific data using both conventional and electronic methods. Have experience with automated nucleic acid platforms and analysers (desirable). Bring previous experience in pathogen genomics, microbiology, or bioinformatics research (desirable).
