Position Details

The College of Arts and Letters at The University of Tampa is seeking a Technical Production Coordinator. This is an instructional staff position that is renewable annually. Duties include scenic design and construction of theatrical productions, designing and/or assisting with lighting requirements for various productions, providing oversight for all performance-related events at the Falk Theatre and the Ferman Black Box Theater, oversight, direction and supervision of all theatre student workers and employees, and operating and maintaining production equipment for the college. The selected candidate will also be expected to teach up to 8 credit hours annually in their discipline.

To meet the needs of the various programs involved, this position demands flexibility in maintaining a work schedule. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, and is expected to work collaboratively with faculty, students and guest artists and directors.

In addition to the duties noted above, the ideal candidate will also be responsible for the following tasks and objectives:

  • Performing routine repairs or reporting malfunctions to appropriate staff.
  • Properly storing equipment after usage.
  • Coordinating the execution of scenic design and lighting, recommending purchase of new or replacement equipment, as well as ordering and obtaining materials for production.
  • Overseeing and maintaining inventory on all items and equipment; performing safety checks on equipment and facilities ensuring safety guidelines are being met.
  • Visually presenting scenic ideas to the director/choreographer via renderings or photographs and periodically checking with the director and continuing to attend rehearsals to update production needs.
  • Working within established scenic and lighting budget, working within deadlines set by the director and/or choreographer.
  • Training backstage student crews to assist with the scenic, lighting/sound, and stage management of the production; returning/restocking of all set pieces to inventory, repaired if necessary, and appropriately stored and secured.
  • Supervision of "load-in" and strike of all properties and furnishings following each production run; and be present for all technical rehearsals and performances to effectively manage the run crew of the university-sponsored event and troubleshoot or address any technical issues that may arise during performance.

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in Theater or affiliated discipline. A bachelor's degree with significant professional experience may be considered. This individual should also possess skills in stage production methods, as well as sound and lighting operations (this includes familiarity with QLab5 and other industry standard applications); strong skills in carpentry and construction techniques for the building of theatrical sets, as well as knowledge of stage management principles and practices. The candidate should also be an effective communicator, and collaborative theater artist.
