Technical Services Specialist Lead
Provides database management services for centrally administered automated information systems. Designs, implements and maintains assigned databases. Recommends and implements enhancements and updates.
Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.
- Designs, implements and maintains databases and applications using Oracle and related software, to include backup, recovery, performance tuning, security and troubleshooting.
- Configures and supports multiple complex relational database environments, such as multi-tier client server applications.
- Develops and implements procedures for data migration, archiving and change control.
- Installs and troubleshoots upgrades and patches to vendor supported database management systems applications and related software; serves as liaison with vendors.
- Provides technical assistance and training to developers in database usage, file and table design, data dictionary usage, update techniques, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Coordinates performance testing and capacity planning; collects and reviews data and statistics.
- Identifies, evaluates and incorporates new and non-core technologies to current data systems.
- Documents configurations, processes, procedures and requirements; develops technical documentation for in-house developed databases and assists with development of shop standards.
- Manages assigned projects, to include work leadership of staff, assignment of tasks and definition of project timelines.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
