Position Summary

The Departments of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center are seeking a highly motivated Technician. The individual will join a diverse group studying multiple aspects of lung repair in a small animal model. The primary purpose of this position is to function effectively as a member of a research team to provide assistance in routine molecular biology techniques, such as immunostaining and relative imaging/data analysis, ELISA, qPCR, functional assays, animal care (genotyping and routine care), assisting with the harvest and processing of tissues from rodents, regular lab care, and other duties as assigned. Technician will also work with animals (mice, rats).

Responsibilities

  • Genotyping and mouse colony maintenance.
  • In vivo animal experiments (mice, rats).
  • Perform laboratory procedures including cell culturing, standard biochemical measurements.
  • Enzymatic assays, native electrophoresis, and fluorescent scanning.
  • Use new techniques to assist in research progress.
  • Perform statistical analysis of data.
  • Prepare and perform internal progress reports on experiments.
  • Attend weekly laboratory meetings and other training programs in other collaborating laboratories as needed.
  • Order supplies and reagents for other lab members.
  • Complete inventory of basic laboratory materials.
  • Organizing freezers and other storage areas.
  • May conduct computational studies and or manage research databases.
  • May contribute to publications and research presentations.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of college or a completed A.A program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program. One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/ or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, engineering or related science preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The ideal candidate will possess solid knowledge of animal care and skills in animal studies (mice, rats).
