Technician B
Position Summary
The Technician B will work closely with the PI and research team in the Basic Science Research Group in the Division of Surgical Science at Department of Surgery at Columbia University. The Technician B will perform multiple assignments under direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with the designing and implementing of experiments critical to the lab, which may include molecular cloning, animal work, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry analysis.
- Perform laboratory experiments and collect data.
- Contribute to research implementation.
- Assist with ordering laboratory supplies.
- Maintaining a lab notebook or records related to task
- Managing and maintaining mouse colonies, cutting mouse tails and Excel Data entry.
- Preparing solutions, isolating DNA, performing PCR, preparing and running agarose gels, detecting DNA and recording the results.
- Mouse brain slices, perfusion and image, record for synaptic activity/electrophysiology, and mouse behavior test.
- Prepare solutions and reagents for daily lab use.
- Calibration/upkeep of laboratory equipment.
- Interact with personnel from other related research projects.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and experience.
- Knowledge of related laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Excellent organization skills
