The Otago Genomics Facility (OGF) is part of the Division of Health Sciences Research Infrastructure Centre (RIC). The facility provides a professional, high‑quality sequencing service for researchers and students at the University of Otago.
The role / Te mahi
We are seeking a Technician to provide support to researchers and students wishing to perform Illumina sequencing.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing technical support for Illumina sequencing.
• Assisting with scoping projects, preparing quotes, and developing contracts for sequencing services.
• Supporting routine maintenance of OGF laboratories and equipment.
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation.
You will also assist with general laboratory management, including maintaining stocks of consumables and reagents, and ensuring compliance with health and safety and other relevant regulations.
Your skills and experience / Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
You will hold a graduate science qualification (or equivalent) in biochemistry or a related discipline, with a strong biochemistry background. Experience with Illumina sequencing is essential.
You will be passionate about your field and bring the following skills:
• Understanding of sequencing techniques.
• Excellent laboratory practice and technical skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

This is a fixed‑term, variable-hours, (up to 0.5 FTE) position until 21 December 2026, based in Ōtepoti Dunedin.
The provisional salary level for this position is Level 4 - $63,508–$68,185, with a top of range of $73,640 (pro rata). Please note that this may change following the formal job evaluation.
