Technology Commercialization Assistant
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, Biological Science, or related field. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, Biological Science, or related field. One (1) year of full-time administrative and/or research experience. Experience working in or with a technology assessment, development, and/or technology transfer office. Experience in a business development and/or investment environment. Product design/prototyping and/or laboratory research experience. Experience with technology-based start-up companies.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Technology Commercialization Assistant will support the Intellectual Property Partners (IPP) staff with a broad range of professional administrative duties related to technology commercialization projects and initiatives.
Focus will be on assisting with the following:
- Invention scouting and invention disclosure facilitation
- Patent evaluation, marketing, and the administration of intellectual property.
- Assessment and management of portfolios of patents and technologies, seeking to maximize the value of total assets held by IPP.
- Process and workflow improvement projects, including but not limited to software and database management systems.
The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties Include:
- Provide a broad range of professional administrative support for various technology commercialization projects and initiatives such as conduct research and analyze data as needed to assist with informed data-driven decisions. Learn about technology commercialization through participation in decisions. Through market research, due diligence, technology research, and on-line research, the incumbent will learn how to evaluate technologies in terms of science, market and customers, competitive landscape, product economics, regulatory pathways and overall potential for commercialization.
- Attend, participate, and provide a broad range of professional administrative support for IPP meetings.
- Enhance relevant professional skills and understanding of University operations through participation in various training programs, courses, or other learning opportunities as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
