Scope of Job:
To provide the intake, review, management, and licensing of intellectual property created at UTRGV. Responsible for working closely with industrial counterparts, faculty, and patent attorneys for development, licensing, and commercialization of new technologies created at UTRGV.
Description of Duties:
• Conducts prior art searches, patentability and marketability studies, evaluates new technologies.
• Provides training and outreach programs to faculty and students.
• Promotes new technologies to potential licensees globally. This includes writing public promotional materials.
• Identifies potential commercialization partners, ranging from management teams for start-ups to multinational corporations.
• Negotiates license agreements, fosters existing licensee relationships, and monitors compliance.
• Serves as first contact for all questions regarding intellectual property.
• Manages relationships with internal and external contacts, including researchers, licensees, and early-stage investors.
• Reports for regulatory compliance including Federal iEdison. Must seek continuing training to stay current on regulatory changes.
• Drafts agreements and contracts.
• Edits specific web pages using Cascade and similar tools.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific supervision from assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in life sciences or related engineering, science, or other related field from an accredited University.
Preferred Education:
Master's degree or terminal degree in life sciences or related engineering, science, or other related field from an accredited University.
Licenses/Certifications:
None.
Required Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience in intellectual property management and commercialization, including experience in facilitating inventor disclosure, and in managing inventor patent attorney relationships and experience in managing and negotiating licenses in the science, engineering, biomedical, and/or health-related intellectual property, or
