Essential Job Duties: The PowerAmerica Technology Manager is a pivotal role within PowerAmerica, responsible for driving the advancement of wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor technologies. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to foster collaboration among industry members, academic partners, and stakeholders. The Technology Manager will lead initiatives to support and grow PowerAmerica's mission in the semiconductor market.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the WBG semiconductor industry and support PowerAmerica's mission to accelerate the manufacturing and commercialization of innovative technologies in the United States.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- Proposal Management and Oversight:
- Lead Proposal Development: Write Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Calls for Proposals (CFPs), assemble and lead review teams for evaluating proposals, and negotiate statements of work (SOWs) with performers and funding agencies.
- Project Monitoring: Review projects quarterly against technical milestones, evaluate performer reports on PowerAmerica technical project status, and ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) requirements through regular reporting and metrics evaluation.
- Project Management and Collaboration:
- Manage Member-Initiated Projects: Interact, collaborate, and support PowerAmerica industry members to effectively manage and execute projects initiated by members. Develop Technology Roadmap: Work on creating an industry-driven WBG semiconductor technology roadmap that aligns with member needs and market trends.
- Evaluate Technical Proposals: Assess SiC and GaN power electronic technical proposals, rendering expert opinions on their technical merit, approach, equipment selection, schedule, and resource allocation.
- Technical Guidance and Evaluation:
- Application Review: Provide guidance on SiC and GaN power electronic approaches across various applications including wind, solar, automotive, power grid, data centers, and motors, ensuring alignment with target metrics.
- Reporting and Presentations: Write comprehensive technical reports and deliver oral presentations on wide bandgap chips and power electronics, supporting the development of requests for information and proposal solicitations.
- Status and Advisory Services: Provide status updates and advisory support to the Executive Director & CTO to facilitate project and funding decisions.
- Marketing and Member Engagement:
- Promote PowerAmerica Services: Market PowerAmerica's services and its value proposition to both existing and prospective members, enhancing visibility and membership growth.
- Grant Proposal Support: Assist in writing proposals to secure additional federal grant funding, while attracting new industry and academic partners to broaden PowerAmerica's membership and reputation.
- Strategic Forecasting and Supply Chain Management:
- Investment and Strategy Advice: Utilize expertise in WBG technology to advise the Executive Director & CTO, partners, and members on optimal investments for the supply chain, including equipment and materials.
- Future Market Forecasting: Provide insights on supply chain management and development, delivering future forecasts for PowerAmerica's roadmap, particularly over the next 5-10 years.
- Evaluate Return on Investment: Estimate and provide guidance on the most effective equipment, strategies, and procedures that will yield the best return on investment for PowerAmerica and its partners.
- Event Planning and Execution:
- Plan Key Events: Assist with the planning and successful execution of major PowerAmerica events, including the annual meeting, summer workshop, short courses, and monthly technical webinars.
- Industry Conferences: Organize industry sessions and tutorials at WBG-related conferences and support PowerAmerica's booth presence, ensuring effective engagement with attendees.
Minimum Experience/Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree required. Must have 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, material science, or physics with a focus on wide bandgap semiconductor technology management. Graduate-level experience may be considered within total years of experience.
Required Qualifications: Must have a background in WBG power electronic technology. Must have knowledge and experience in the theories, concepts, principles, techniques, and practices of power electronics circuits and particularly those based on WBG. Must have experience writing Requests for proposals (RFPs), Calls for Proposals (CFPs), assembling and leading review teams to evaluate proposals, negotiating statements of work (SOWs) to bring proposals under contract, reviewing projects quarterly against milestones, and writing reports on PowerAmerica technical project status. Must have experience managing the technical part of government contract awards. Must have experience in proposal writing. Must have good oral and written skills to present PowerAmerica work at conferences and government meetings. Must have project management skills and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in wide bandgap semiconductor technology, power electronic technology, proposal writing, and technical project and contract management.
