Temporary Education Event Officer
Job Description
The Education Event Officer will provide additional but essential support to our research team by ensuring the smooth execution, completion, of scheduled workshops that are part of the deliverables for a marine plankton research project. The successful candidate will be dedicated to assist with the planning, coordination of logistics and volunteers, and the execution of these education workshops, especially when team members are away for overseas work trips, fieldwork or medically not fit to be present. This position is designed to enhance the team’s productivity while offering the candidate valuable hands-on experience in scientific communication and events management.
The successful candidate will:
- Assist with Workshop Logistics: Provide administrative and logistical support for workshops, including planning, scheduling, and participant/volunteers coordination.
- Create promotional media (e.g. electronic direct mailers, etc.) to advertise the workshops
- Liaise and follow-up with the paperwork of financial matters relating to the workshop, such as payment and the taxes.
- Assist with hosting visiting scientists who are invited to instruct at these workshops.
- Generate data relating to the workshops (e.g. participant size, etc.) for reporting purposes.
- Assist with any sister projects.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, a strong passion for education and scientific communication, as well as some experience in events coordination. Desired qualifications include having that bachelor’s degree in biology, customer service and familiarity with administrative protocols involving financial matters.
