Overview
The Music Department at Utah State University invites applications for a Temporary Assistant Professor of Percussion to coordinate and teach in its percussion program. This is a 9-month, academic-year appointment beginning August 1, 2026, with the potential for renewal beyond the 2026-2027 academic year. We seek a dynamic and collaborative educator and performer who will contribute to the vibrant musical community at USU.
This position may be appointed as Temporary Instructor or Temporary Assistant Professor depending on terminal degree and experience.

Responsibilities
- Teaching weekly lessons to percussion students, supervising student recitals, and preparing and leading percussion juries
- Coordinating the Caine Chamber Percussion Ensemble and USU's large Percussion Ensemble
- Teaching percussion methods courses for music education majors in both the fall and spring semesters
- Performing with the faculty jazz ensemble as needed
- Collaborating with colleagues to strengthen the percussion program and the broader music curriculum
Qualifications
- Temporary Assistant Professor rank: PhD or Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance or a closely related field completed by time of appointment.
- Temporary Instructor rank: a Master's degree in Music or related field. Candidates who are All But Dissertation (ABD) will be appointed at the Temporary Instructor rank, with advancement to Temporary Assistant Professor contingent upon completion of the doctoral degree.
- Experience in both classical and jazz performance
- Engaging and effective teaching style
- Strong interpersonal skills
