Temporary Photography and Media Studio Technician
The Opportunity
The Temporary Studios Technician supports the daily operations of the Photography and MAPS studios, Fine Art Print Center, and, most significantly, the Tjaden equipment cage, the primary hub for equipment lending across the Department of Art. The role ensures the effective circulation, tracking, maintenance coordination, and equitable access to studio equipment and resources, while maintaining a safe, organized, and functional environment for teaching and studio practice.
In this position, you will provide hands-on technical support and guidance to students, including demonstrating proper use of equipment, assisting with material selection, and troubleshooting technical issues. You will collaborate closely with faculty to support course needs and help ensure that studio activities align with academic objectives.
The technician also plays an important role in coordinating studio operations, including scheduling and supervising student employees, maintaining inventory, and performing preventative equipment maintenance. In partnership with studio leadership, facilities staff, and Environmental Health and Safety, you will help ensure compliance with university policies and promote a culture of safety and accountability.
Additionally, this role contributes to fostering a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive studio environment, while supporting continuous improvement of studio processes and resources
