Temporary Pool- Facility Maintenance Technician
Primary Purpose of the Organization
The Division of Facilities Management functions to design, construct, maintain and operate the University’s physical facilities. The number one objective of the department is to provide and maintain facilities that will enhance and support the mission and academic goals of the University. Our approach is centered upon providing a superior level of customer service.
Primary Purpose of the Position
Temporary Facility Maintenance Technician provide maintenance support for all campus buildings and perform a wide variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of university facilities and equipment. Duties include:
- Work Order Control – Accurately maintain work requests submitted. Assure that all maintenance is completed accordingly.
- Project Management – Receive and complete projects with little to no supervision beyond the basic instruction.
- Preventive Maintenance – Effectively perform preventive maintenance on all plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Emergency Management – Employee is classified as essential. Personnel is all weather and mechanical emergencies. Employee is expected to respond during on and off hour emergencies.
- Air Conditioning Repair and Troubleshooting – Make repairs, troubleshoot and maintains various air conditioning systems in the residence halls and apartments.
- Plumbing – Repair, replace, and trouble shoot various plumbing systems.
- Electrical – Repair, replace, and trouble shoot various electrical systems.
- Misc. Task Management – Maintain a multi-faceted and flexible task management system that allows for constant change.
Working Hours: This position is scheduled for up to 40 hours per week. Weekly scheduled days and work hours will vary and may include weekends, evenings and holidays. Advance notice of schedules will be provided.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license. Selected applicant must have and maintain an acceptable driving record, preferably five or more years of driving experience with no more than one minor at fault accident or violation in the past three years.

Responds to customer’s needs, questions and concerns in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
Knowledge-Technical
Advises staff of specialized grounds maintenance techniques and processes for use In unusual. General knowledge of established Trade procedures and techniques, and special applications required in assigned areas. Ability to follow a daily work schedule, and react to situations requiring minor adjustments to routine.
Dependability/Attendance
Ability to demonstrate dependability, which requires daily attendance. Ability to report to work daily, for a full shift, at an appropriate time. Ability to submit leave request at least 5 days in advanced as much as possible.
Communication
Conveys information clearly, confidently, and with proper tone. Ability to develop and deliver written information to individuals or groups to ensure that they understand the message
Planning/Organizing
Ability to follow the daily work schedule by prioritizing the needs of the organization and implementing procedures to ensure that the tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of general procedures of applicable trades/maintenance techniques and develop skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to trade.
