Temporary position (Vikariat) - Administrator for CBEES Advanced Seminars

Södertörn University is a higher education institution in Stockholm that conducts education, research, and collaboration for sustainable societal development. We have around 14 000 students, 80 programmes and 300 courses, and we conduct education and research in the humanities, social sciences, technology and natural sciences. The university also offers police education and teacher education with an intercultural profile. A great deal of our research relates to the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. We combine subjects, perspectives, people and experiences, and are worldminded, curious and questioning, searching for surprising syntheses, challenges and development.

The Centre for Baltic and East European Studies (CBEES) is a research centre at Södertörn University tasked with stimulating and developing the university's multidisciplinary research and doctoral education, focusing on the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe. CBEES arranges regular seminars, recurring international conferences and summer schools, lectures, workshops, PhD student meetings and courses, and publishes the journal Baltic Worlds. The centre has professors, visiting researchers, postdocs, doctoral students and research leaders.

We are now looking for a temporary position as administrator for CBEES that will take care of the centre's planning of upcoming seminars and conferences in 2026.

Duties

Duties include planning and administering the centre's in-house or virtual seminar activities, as well as administering related events (workshops, conferences and symposiums). The position comprises primary responsibility for the planning of CBEES Advanced seminars, and also longer sessions for the presentation of new and completed research projects funded by the Baltic Sea Foundation. The holder of the position is included in the Organising Committee for the CBEES Annual Conference, and also in the CBEES Director’s Group, where plans for the further development of the centre are discussed. The work includes booking lecture halls, contacting potential seminar participants in Sweden and abroad, booking hotels and travel, publishing programmes on Södertörn University's websites, and disseminating information about these events in a wider scholarly context. These duties may be subject to change. The position requires continuous presence at CBEES.

Desirable qualifications

For this position, we are looking for a person with a doctoral degree who has experience in planning and administering scholarly seminars, conferences and other academic events such as Harvest seminars. The working language at CBEES is English. In the assessment of the applicants for this position, special emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

The employment

The employment comprises 40% of full-time for 12 months. The planned starting date is 1 January 2026 or by agreement. The work will be located at Södertörn University in Flemingsberg, and the employee will be based at CBEES.
