Temporary Shop Technician
This is a temporary, part-time position to support Studio Manager/Shop Supervisor (in studio arts) during open shop time of the semester. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate and supervise various fabrication processes, including the use of hand and power tools, and enforce safety protocols (including cleanup protocols) for students and faculty in the studio art wood shop and class labs.
Education required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Education preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Substitution for Education Requirement: none
Experience Requirement: 6 months
Experience preferred but not required: Experience in an academic setting or fine art preparations techniques (fabrication)
Skills Required:
- Expert-level use of power tools
- Expert-level knowledge of safe operation of power tools and hand tools.
- A wide variety of art fabrication techniques and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Detail-oriented and organizational skills
Physical Demands: Long periods of standing, bending, lifting. Ability to lift 50lbs.
Working Conditions: Cement floors, steel-toed shoes required and safety glasses
Security sensitive: No
Skills Preferred but not required: Welding and metal fabrication
