Temporary Summer Camp Manager, CE
Job Summary
RISD Continuing Education seeks a Summer Camp Manager to oversee summer camp programming for 6-12 year old students at RISD's Tillinghast Place in Barrington, RI.
This individual will be the primary point of contact on-site for students, families, and other camp staff. They will be responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment; ensuring instructors have the resources needed for planned art activities; managing drop-off and pick-up times, communicating with families, and overall program success. This role works closely with the Youth Program Manager to ensure a smooth and engaging experience for students, families, and fellow CE staff.

Essential Functions:
- Pre-program site preparation: work with CE Operations staff to order supplies, prepare classrooms & organize supply closets
- Lead training activities for fellow camp staff in close collaboration with the Youth Program Manager
- Support pre-program communication to parents and families around important announcements, reminders, and required forms.
- Manage the daily flow of camp including: morning announcements, lunch and recreation time, afternoon snack period, staff meal breaks and group transitions
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students, families and fellow camp staff; responding to and addressing questions and concerns in-person, by phone and by email
- Mentor, support and provide feedback to fellow camp staff and instructors
- Lead camp drop-off and pick-up processes, providing clear and welcoming communication to students and families while ensuring adherence to all relevant policies
- Provide support in the classroom, including acting as a substitute when needed.
- Verify all families have submitted required emergency information; proactively contact families when required information is missing
- Monitor and restock classroom supplies for the duration of the program
- Day to day oversight of camp assistants
- Log all behavioral and first aid incidents using RISD's incident reporting platform, and respond according to CE's emergency protocols
- Communicate all facilities requests to on-campus colleagues
- Provide limited emergency response per CE's and RISD's emergency response protocol if and when needed. Oversee all day to day camp safety protocol and equipment.
- Participate in post-camp recaps and assessments
- Provide daily status updates to Program Manager
- Attend and staff Pre-College Check-In Day (Saturday) to assist students and their families upon arrival.
- Support other CE summer programs as needed
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Prior experience working with children ages 6-12 is preferred
- Ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds
- Creativity, flexibility, and personal warmth are essential.
- Proficient in technology and an ability to learn new software or systems
- Ability to manage students in both indoor and outdoor settings while navigating various unknown scenarios including weather, behavior, and emergencies.
- Experience leading and supporting others in a professional setting is preferred
- Must be innovative and solution-oriented, able to work independently and as a part of a highly collaborative team.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population of students, instructors, and staff.
- Please note that this role may include physically moving items and/or frequently walking around different parts of the camp grounds based on daily needs and program requests.
- Comfort working and leading a program independently with an understanding of when to communicate with supervisors who are sometimes on site.
- The ability to travel to off-site locations such as the main Providence campus.
- May be required to participate in First Aid and/or CPR training
- Must be available to work full length of contract
