"Temporary- Tutor/Mentor- TRIO Student Support Services (Pool)"

Job Summary

The Tutor/Mentor will provide mentoring support and tutoring services in the areas of reading, writing, math, natural sciences, and other areas based upon TRIO students' needs. The Tutor/Mentor positions are temporary part-time. Tutoring and Mentoring sessions may be held individually or in groups. Tutors/Mentors will work closely with the TRIO Program Coordinator to outline and follow up on student needs.

Job Duties

Maintain accurate records of tutoring activities including timesheets. Review course assignments, homework, tests and quizzes. Provide monthly reports on students' progress. Clarify concepts not fully understood by student. Attend required tutor training sessions. Provide assistance with recruitment and retention as needed. Facilitate group mentoring sessions. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have received an "A" in course to be tutored.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated student leadership experience. Ability to tutor in Math and Science. Experience as a mentor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be mature, patient and willing to work with students in the classroom. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organization and time management skills. Trained in techniques of tutoring, mentoring and study skills. Must be able to exercise confidentiality of student information and records in accordance with the confidentiality agreement.

Pay Rate

$12.00 per hour
