The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (CBC) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Fall 2026 start). The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment within CBC and will have strong opportunities to collaborate with numerous Centers of Excellence across multiple Colleges.
We seek candidates with a research and education program focused on the Chemistry of Materials for Energy Science and Applications, broadly defined. Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate levels and to fostering a welcoming environment that supports students, trainees, staff, and colleagues from a broad range of backgrounds. Candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous and sustainable research program demonstrated by an excellent track record of creative research accomplishments and external funding.
Preference will be given to candidates with the potential to collaborate and participate in activities on campus that meet the strategic goals of the University. Individuals who apply should be committed to working with faculty members in advancing research and practice. The program faculty places a high value on collaboration both within the program and across disciplines. We seek individuals who bring enthusiasm, leadership capability, and a deep commitment to academic excellence within the scholar-practitioner tradition. We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to work with a variety of student populations, stakeholders, and colleagues.
We will give priority to applications received by November 1, 2025.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellence in energy science-related molecular research and education.
- Ability to attract external funding.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a vigorous, productive, nationally and internationally recognized research program.
- Teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and contribute to innovation in curricular development.
- Mentor students in an effective and respectful manner.
- Participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
- Develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Postdoctoral research experience.
- Relevant publications in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience mentoring students.
- Experience in obtaining external research funding.
- Committed to working with faculty members in advancing research and practice.
- Ability to work with a variety of student populations, stakeholders, and colleagues.
