Tenure-Track, Asian Religions and/or Religions of the Asian Diaspora
Primary function: The Department of Religious Studies at Sewanee: The University of the South seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Asian Religions and/or Religions of the Asian Diaspora with specialized training and expertise in ethnographic methods, beginning in August of 2026.
Position Description: Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Successful candidates will teach introductory courses and upper-division courses in their area of expertise, contribute to shared syllabi creation for required coursework, and eventually be expected to teach a required introductory course for the major, along with an upper-level seminar on theories and methods in the study of religion, which all members of the department teach in rotation. The teaching load for this position is five courses per year.
Attributes of a Successful Candidate: Education: We prefer candidates to have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies at the time of appointment. Experience: The successful candidate will show evidence of effective classroom teaching and commitment to scholarly research and publication. We are especially interested in candidates who address the stakes of their research, particularly in a world of injustice and precarity.
