The Department of Computer Science at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to begin August 2026. We are committed to cultivating a welcoming environment for our faculty, staff, and students, and we value candidates who will be both impactful teachers and impactful scholars. Preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will also be considered.
The JMU CS department is a vibrant and supportive community with 33 full-time faculty members teaching in the Computer Science and Information Technology programs. The Computer Science program has approximately 700 undergraduate majors and 60 minors, as well as an online M.S. Degree in Cybersecurity with approximately 60 students. The IT program has approximately 250 majors. We are dedicated to supporting a culture that balances excellence in teaching, small class sizes, and opportunities for faculty and student research.
Applicants from all areas of specialization are encouraged to apply. We especially welcome candidates with a background in Systems, Software Engineering, Theoretical Computer Science, AI, or Cyber Security. Candidates should demonstrate ability and interest in providing high-quality undergraduate teaching in the context of a liberal arts university.
Preference will be given to applicants with the potential to develop and sustain an active, undergraduate-oriented research program. A Doctorate (Ph.D., D.Sc., etc.) in Computer Science or a closely related field at the time of employment is required for this position.
