Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor -Genetics, Genomics, and Cell Biology
Job Details
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Genetics, Genomics, and Cell Biology. We seek innovative scientists who investigate fundamental mechanisms of gene function and cellular biology and/or translate genomic insights to human health. Candidates using cutting-edge experimental and/or computational approaches—such as single-cell and spatial multi‑omics, genome engineering, high‑content imaging, and functional genomics—are especially encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program in genetics, genomics, and cell biology, and contribute to our collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
Areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to):
- Foundational genetics & genomics, such as gene regulation, transcriptional control, and RNA biology
- Cell Biology & mechanisms, including organelle biology (mitochondria, ER, lysosome), membrane trafficking, cytoskeleton, and mechanobiology
- Single-cell, spatial, and multi-omics, including lineage tracing and cell state dynamics and tissue atlases
- Model systems (e.g., mouse, rat, zebrafish), and platforms, including organoids, primary cells, iPSC-derived models, and microphysiological systems
- Human health & disease, such as cardiometabolic, immunogenetics, infectious disease/host microbiome interactions
The University of Mississippi Medical Center offers a vibrant research environment with access to state of-the-art core facilities (e.g., genomics, single-cell and spatial platforms, high-performance computing, and mouse gene-editing), biostatistics/computational support, and opportunities to collaborate with clinical programs and research centers such as the Molecular Center of Health and Disease. Additional incentives include competitive start-up packages, state-of-the-art laboratory space, mentorship for grant development, and strong department and institutional support for research.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded research program
- Contribute to the education of graduate and professional students
- Engage productively with both basic and clinical scientists at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Qualifications:
- PhD, MD, or MD-PhD, with postdoctoral training and a strong background in genetic, genomics, and/or cell biology
- Candidates for Associate Professor: an established record of sustained extramural funding
- Candidates for Assistant Professor: a strong potential for establishing an externally funded research program.
Preferred qualifications:
- Active extramural funding
- Experience in teaching graduate, dental, and/or medical students.
- Experience in mentoring graduate and postdoctoral trainees
- Experience with imaging flow cytometry
- Experience with animal models
How to apply:
Applicants should submit the following in a single file through Workday:
- Cover letter
- Curriculum vitae, including a bibliography
- Statement of research accomplishments and future directions
- Description of teaching and mentoring experience
- Names and contact information of three references
