The Department of Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics has the following full-time vacancy: (tenure track) assistant professor / associate professor in the field of Strategy and Innovation Management.

Position

Applicants should demonstrate expertise in the field of strategic management with a focus on innovation, digital transformation, and the strategic management of technology. The department supports diverse approaches to research and encourages candidates who can contribute to both our research excellence and teaching innovation in our Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD program portfolio to apply.

You will contribute to the University of Antwerp’s three core tasks: education, research and services. Your role also includes organisational and managerial aspects.

Education

  • You provide high-quality education in the field of strategy and innovation management.
  • Your teaching role evolves along with the study programmes. The courses you teach may include courses in the broad field of strategic management in our bachelor and master programs. You will also teach some courses in the Antwerp Management School and/or other faculties of the University of Antwerp.
  • You play a role in developing activating, student-centred and competence-driven programme components and study programmes.
  • You supervise bachelor and master dissertations.

Research

  • You expand high-quality scientific research in the domain of strategic management with an emphasis on innovation, digital transformation, and the strategic management of technology.
  • You initiate new lines of research and coordinate the progress of scientific research projects. You also participate in ongoing research programmes.
  • You acquire and manage national and international research funding.
  • You publish in leading international journals.
  • You develop an international scientific network.
  • You supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Service, organisation and leadership

  • You play a role in the provision of both academic services and service to society, within the Faculty of Business and Economics, the University of Antwerp and the broader society.
  • You accept coordinating responsibilities in the areas of teaching, research and/or service provision and you contribute to policy formation within the university.
  • You have or want to develop a leadership style that is motivating and coaching, aiming to foster your employees’ growth and development processes.

Profile

  • You hold a PhD in the domain of strategic management/business economics (or a related field).
  • You can present an excellent research record with top scholarly journal publications (possibly in progress).
  • You demonstrate the potential to acquire third party funding and actively seek external funding.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. You are motivated to develop your teaching skills further through the professionalisation opportunities available.
  • If you do not master Dutch, the administrative language of the university, you should be willing to obtain a CEFR B2 level of proficiency in Dutch. As soon as you take on teaching duties as a course unit coordinator, you should be able to demonstrate a CEFR C1 level of proficiency in the language of instruction. Many courses at the Faculty of Business and Economics are taught in English. The University of Antwerp supports international staff members on an integration trajectory and offers tailor-made language coaching in compliance with Flanders’ statutory language regulations.
  • You demonstrate leadership potential and organisational skills.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.

What we offer

  • We offer a full-time faculty position (Dutch: ‘zelfstandig academisch personeel’ (ZAP)). We are looking for a junior profile. Your rank (assistant or associate professor) will be determined based on your professional experience and academic qualifications. Junior faculty members are usually given a temporary appointment as a tenure track assistant professor for five years, followed by a permanent appointment as associate professor. An appointment as associate professor leads to a permanent appointment after three years. A favourable performance assessment is required for each appointment.
  • We offer you funding to appoint a doctoral fellow for four years and €15,000 in operating funds to boost your research from the start of your employment at UAntwerp.
  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scales for faculty (ZAP).
  • You will receive ecocheques, internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • The planned start date is 15 September 2026 or as soon as possible after that date.
  • You will do most of your work at the university’s Stadscampus in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
