Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Animal Ecology
The School of Natural Sciences in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Architecture at Laurentian University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for an existing Tenure Track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in Animal Ecology. The preferred start date is January 1, 2027*.
Candidates must have completed a PhD degree in biology or a related discipline, at the start of the appointment. Relevant work experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with proven research expertise in pure or applied ecology related to conservation, environmental change and wildlife management. While applications from candidates working on any vertebrate taxa will be considered, we particularly encourage those studying birds to apply. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in French (such as BIOL 2356FL - Principes d’écologie; BIOL 2706FL - Forme et fonction des vertébrés) and English (such as BIOL 3746EL - Animal Ecology; BIOL 4777EL - Wildlife Management) as part of the B.Sc. programs in Biology and Zoology. They will also get the opportunity to develop a new course in their field of expertise. The candidate is expected to build a strong research program, secure external funding, and supervise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They should forge interdisciplinary research interactions and collaborations with colleagues in the School of Natural Sciences and within other units at the university, with industry and community partners.
The successful candidate will have the following essential qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in Biology or related discipline at the time of appointment.
- Have active knowledge of both official languages (functional bilingualism).
- The candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence.
- A track record of publications in peer-reviewed literature.
- Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.
In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching and research, the successful candidate is expected to have an on-campus presence and make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community.

- Complete and up-to-date Curriculum vitae, including a full list of publications.
- A teaching statement, which would contain a teaching philosophy and strategies for student engagement.
- A research statement, including a description of potential research projects the candidate would initiate at Laurentian.
- A statement providing evidence of incorporation of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) into both teaching and research.
- Names and full contact information for three academic referees.

*The minimum salary for the rank of Assistant Professor is set at $82,732.80, with additional increments awarded for relevant experience in accordance with the Laurentian University Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
