Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Sociology (Sociology of Work and Professions)

The Department of Sociology at Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo campus) invites applications for a Tenure-Track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek applicants with expertise in the Sociology of Work and Professions, with the ability to teach sociological theory. The position will begin July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval.

Anticipated Salary Range: $90K to $110K. Actual salary to be commensurate with experience.

The Department of Sociology is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Arts at Laurier and is characterized by research and teaching strengths in the areas of equity and social justice. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain and advance a research program in the sociology of work and professions. We are looking for proven research excellence (e.g., publications, other dissemination of scholarly work, grants or awards etc.) in this field and as appropriate for stage of career. The candidate will be expected to teach elective courses in the sociology of work and professions as well as required courses in sociological theory. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and pedagogical excellence in these areas. Departmental service is an important component of this position, and previous administrative experience will be considered an asset.

A Ph.D. (or ABD with doctorate awarded by July 1, 2026) is a required qualification. We will give preference to candidates with doctorates in Sociology; however, sociologists with doctoral degrees in closely related disciplines will be considered. The candidate’s record of research and scholarship should demonstrate their expertise in the sociology of work and professions.
