Tenure Track Assistant Professor Indigenous Pedagogy

The University of Idaho’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences are pleased to announce the availability of a full-time 9-month tenure-track assistant professor position in Indigenous Pedagogy. We aim to recruit a dynamic educator to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: elementary or secondary social studies, science methods or literacy, educational foundations, or Indigenous theories of learning, and graduate classes in Indigenous research methods. The ideal candidate will establish a focused line of scholarly inquiry and publication and grant submission record in Indigenous education and pedagogy that contributes to the Indigenous Knowledge for Effective Education Program (IKEEP) and cross-college Center for Interdisciplinary Indigenous Research and Education (CIIRE). Expectations of the position also include a commitment to advising undergraduate and graduate students and providing service (e.g., recruitment, retention, graduate accreditation) and outreach within the Teacher Education Program. The ideal candidate will foster collaborations with Idaho’s Tribal Nations, the University of Idaho’s 11 signatory MOU Tribes, and regional education partners serving Indigenous youth. The ideal candidate will contribute to and expand EHHS’s capacity to develop teacher education, leadership, and professional development programs that address the needs of Tribal Nations and schools serving Native students. The candidate will contribute to innovative grant seeking efforts which build collaboration within the department and more broadly across the university and in schools and the community to address the needs of rural and Indigenous contexts of education. There is an opportunity for summer employment if grant funded or teaching, to be negotiated annually with the Department Chair/Dean.

Faculty members are committed to providing students with educational programs that are based on the latest research, as they are active researchers and leaders in education. Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or EdD in a field of Education or related field by start date. ABD applicants welcome to apply.
  • Experience working with Tribal Nations.
  • Two years experience teaching in K-12 setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with University-Tribal Nation partnerships.
  • 3+ years’ experience designing and implementing educational programs at K-12 and higher education level in Indigenous education and/or Indigenous language, culture, or history studies.
  • Experience working with schools and the communities in rural and Indigenous contexts.
  • Record publishing research in peer reviewed journals, presenting findings at professional conferences, and/or submitting proposals to extramural agencies to fund scholarly work.
  • Experience with grant writing.
