DESCRIPTION:
Cal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Psychology invite
applicants for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty
position in any field of psychology (e.g., Behavioral, Clinical,
Cognitive, Developmental, Neuroscience, Quantitative,
Social).
DEPARTMENT:
The Cal Poly Humboldt Psychology department is dedicated to
providing undergraduate and graduate students with the skills to
scientifically and critically evaluate psychological processes. Our
courses address the impact of culture and context on human
functioning, fostering an appreciation for differences through
research and applied experiences. We value and respect diversity as
a strength and in this regard, seek to attract and retain the best
possible students, staff, and faculty. We prepare our students to
apply their knowledge and skills from psychology to create a
socially just and an equitable society.
The Department of Psychology offers a B.A. degree, a minor program,
course options for general education requirements and electives,
service courses for other majors, and three graduate options
leading to the M.A. degree in School Psychology, Counseling
Psychology (MFT), and Academic Research in Psychology. Faculty with
specializations in each area contribute to all programs and options
in the department.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES:
Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to
building a strong research record. Instructional assignments may
include: undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g. Introduction to
Psychology, Introductory and Advanced Psychological Statistics,
Introductory and Advanced Research Methods in Psychology,
Psychology of Critical Thinking, etc.). Candidates may have the
opportunity to teach other courses in their area of specialization.
Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic
needs of the department and students.
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty
members are: teaching, research, scholarship, creative activity,
and service to the University, profession and to the community.
These responsibilities include: advising students, participation in
campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours,
working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and
participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary
faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a
successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the
probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by
approximately one course each semester. The reduced teaching load
supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative
activities required for retention, tenure, and promotion.
Cal Poly Humboldt also continues to build unique and innovative
learning opportunities for students, bridging multiple disciplines
across the spectrum. Cal Poly Humboldt is a leader in "learning
communities" that build relationships between students, faculty,

RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS:
We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor rank;
however, rank and salary are dependent on the appointee's
qualifications and experience. The Assistant Professor
Classification annual salary range for this position is $74,652 -
$158,688; the anticipated starting annual salary is $80,000 -
$84,000.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned PhD, PsyD or equivalent in Psychology or a closely
related field from an accredited college or university is required
at the time of appointment. If ABD, degree requirements must be
completed by date of appointment. Candidates specializing in
Clinical/Counseling, or School Psychology must hold or be eligible
for appropriate California professional licensure at the time of
appointment. Candidates specializing in Behavior Analysis (BCBA or
BCBA-D) must hold or be eligible for the professional certification
required to perform the anticipated duties of the position at the
time of appointment.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
- Record of training or experience in the field of psychology, or
closely related field;
Excellence in, or clear potential for, university-level
teaching and creating a student-centered learning environment;
Evidence of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing
original research on psychology, or closely related field in
peer-reviewed journals;
Expertise in theoretical frameworks related to psychology or
area of expertise;
Willingness to work collaboratively and productively with
colleagues;
Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse
student and/or research populations;
Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of
concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher
education; and
Record of, or potential for, involving students in research and
scholarly activity.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Potential for effective teaching in a broad range of Psychology
courses using a variety of instructional methodologies;
- Demonstrated program of research;
- Commitment to participating in professional development
opportunities that build effectiveness in teaching, areas of
inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing
diversity;
- Commitment to academic advising and student mentorship;
- Potential to supervise master's theses or projects; and
- Commitment to contribute to departmental, institutional,
professional, and/or community service.
Working in the state of California is a condition of employment
for this position. Pursuant to the California State University
(CSU) Out-of-State Employment Policy (effective January 1, 2022),
hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside of the state
of California is prohibited. The employee must be able to accept
on-campus instruction, as assigned, and come to campus when needed.
The CSU also prohibits hiring and retaining employees working
