John Cabot University (JCU), an accredited American liberal arts university based in Rome (Italy), invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in International Relations and/or Comparative Politics (preferably at the Assistant level). The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of tenure and the successful candidate is expected to join the Department of Political Science and International Affairs, beginning in August 2026.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. and academic experience in Political Science, International Relations or related discipline, demonstrated excellence in teaching, a thriving research agenda, and commitment to academic service. The ideal candidate should have familiarity and experience with the American liberal arts educational tradition and be prepared to teach core undergraduate and graduate courses as well as courses in their area of expertise. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Candidates are expected to be fluent in English, which is the language of instruction, and to possess valid EU working documents in Italy at the time of application. Successful candidates should demonstrate dedication to excellence in teaching and mentoring, scholarly activity, and a serious commitment to university, departmental, and community service.

Applications shall include: 1) a cover letter addressing the applicant’s interest and fit for teaching in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs of an American liberal arts college in Rome; 2) an updated curriculum vitae; 3) a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching and mentoring excellence, and an indication of courses the candidate would be prepared and excited to teach; 4) and a research plan, including an indication of priority areas and of research outputs expected in the next two years. Materials shall be sent as a single pdf file to IRSearch@johncabot.edu. Applicants shall also arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be sent separately to the same email address.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled, with the final deadline for sending applications being 20 January 2026. Due to the high number of applications that will likely be received, only short-listed candidates will be notified.

Inquiries about the position may be addressed to Prof. Silvia Scarpa (sscarpa@johncabot.edu).
