Tenure Track in Computer Science and Engineering
Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinguished candidates to teach in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Duties and Responsibilities
- Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University’s Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.
- The appointee will teach a variety of foundational level computer science courses and may teach courses connected to departmental programs in Computer Science, such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Cybersecurity, Digital Media, Information Systems and Analytics, Data Science, and Computer Engineering.
- The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an active program of research and scholarship, including faculty-mentored student scholarship.
- Participation in student advising, faculty governance responsibilities, membership in professional societies, and professional service is expected.
- Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Computer Science or a related field.
- ABD will be considered, as will a Master’s with significant relevant professional experience, with the expectation that a Doctoral degree be earned before tenure is awarded.
- Background in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning is desirable.
- Mission and departmental fit are of primary importance.
- Evidence of active and ongoing scholarship is desirable.
- Excellence in teaching is essential, including integration of faith into the classroom.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Preference will be given to candidates with face-to-face teaching experience.
Supplemental Information
The CSE department consists of eight faculty members who serve students majoring in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. Computer science offers concentrations in artificial intelligence, digital media, cybersecurity, information systems and analytics, and theory. The department also provides instruction for students in general education and service courses, as well as the information systems and analytics program. The Computer Engineering degree has been ABET-accredited since 2007. The CSE Department is housed in the 127,000 square foot LEED Gold certified Euler Science Complex that opened in 2012 and has 4 computer labs with 90 dual-boot Windows/Linux workstations and access to 3D printers, a laser cutter, CNC machine, and other engineering equipment. Department faculty expertise includes algorithms, artificial intelligence (including machine learning), cybersecurity, graphics, information systems, networks, operating systems, software engineering, and full-stack web development.
International trips with students occur annually through the department’s Roth Center for Missions Computing, which has a 45-year history of assisting Christian organizations with special software needs. Ongoing faculty and student research includes funded work for the defense sector. Faculty and students also participate in nano-satellite projects funded by a variety of government and private agencies.
